2015 Infiniti G37 to Be Renamed Q40

The Infiniti G37 sedan will continue to be sold alongside its successor, the Q50, but for the 2015 model year the Japanese automaker will be renaming it the Infiniti Q40.

The name change follows the rest of Infiniti’s new nomenclature, which will slot the Q40 beneath the Q50 but above the upcoming Q30 compact. The interesting question is, what will happen when Infiniti decides to stop producing the Q40 and what will replace it? The Q50 is the G37 sedan’s successor, so Infiniti will face a dilemma when it comes time to give the Q40 nameplate to a new model.

As for the brand’s future, expect the first flagship model to arrive in 2016 as a 2017 model. The first of the flagships will be a sedan aimed to compete against the Porsche Panamera and BMW 7 Series. The next-generation Q60 will also arrive in two to three years and will be based on the Q50 with the same powertrain options.

As for the Q100 flagship coupe, expect that to come in 2017 or 2018. Drawing inspiration from the Essence concept, the Q100 will cost over $150,000 and will set the tone for the entire brand.

I suggested to Infiniti Corporate in renaming the G37 to Q40 since they are to keep this model the next two-three years. I also suggested adding L.E.D. daytime running lights and turn signal indicators on the outside mirrors.
