Jeep’s next debut will be a full-size SUV that fits in above the Grand Cherokee, and following that a new A-segment SUV smaller than the new Renegade will arrive.

“An A [segment] SUV is something we’ll look at, but our priority is above the Grand Cherokee,” Mike Manley, Jeep CEO told Auto Express. “That car will be a full-size, seven seater that’ll be bigger than the old Commander and will be called Grand Wagoneer.”

The Grand Wagoneer is likely to be a North American specific product, while the new baby Jeep will be available worldwide. Exactly which platform the new small Jeep will ride on is unknown, as the underpinnings for the Renegade would not support it. There is a possibility that it will be based on the next-generation Fiat 500’s bones.

“There’s relentless pressure to reduce CO2 and there’s much more for us to do,” said Manley. Bringing the small Jeep to market would help to balance out the Grand Wagoneer when it comes to fuel economy regulation. “We’re trying to stay away from complexity and improvements are slowly coming.”
