Honda Accord Dethrones Prius as California Sales King

There’s a new best-selling car in the state of California.

The Honda Accord bested the Toyota Prius as the top selling vehicle in California during the first quarter of 2014. Toyota’s hybrid has been the bestselling vehicle in California for two consecutive years, and could still take the top spot when 2014 is over. But for now, the Accord sold 15,611 units during the first quarter while Toyota sold 15,318 Prius hybrids.

The trend continued in third and fourth place, as the Honda Civic sold 14,627 units and the Camry was fourth in California with 14,389 cars sold. Fifth place went to the Toyota Corolla, which had sales of 13,350 units.

As for the fastest-growing brand in California for the first quarter, Chrysler surprised with registration of new Jeep vehicles rising almost 57 percent compared to last year. Ram truck sales were up 49 percent to 5,286 while Fiat was up 78 percent to 3,514.
