Watch the Debut of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Live
The completely redesigned 2016 Mazda MX-5 is ready to make its debut and you can watch all of the action right here.
Live from Monterey, California, Mazda will pull the sheet off the new MX-5 at 6pm (Pacific time) on Wednesday, September 3, with a little help from 80’s pop sensation Duran Duran. Our very own Road Test Editor, Mike Schlee, is driving a 2014 MX-5 down to Monterey as you are reading this, to cover the unveil live ( follow his road trip here).
The car is expected to have lost about 220 pounds compared to the previous generation, bringing the 2016 model’s curb weight to somewhere around 2200 pounds. This is thanks in part to an all-new chassis that utilizes Mazda’s SkyActiv suite of technologies, which focuses on cutting pounds to improve performance.

Under the hood, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is expected, connected to a six-speed manual transmission. Mazda also says the new Miata will be stiffer and slightly smaller than the previous car.
