2016 Jaguar F-Type R AWD Video, First Look

Everyone knows high-horsepower coupes and all-wheel drive go hand-in-hand. Need more proof? Just look at the latest offering from Jaguar, which pairs the sexy F-Type with all-weather capability and enhanced performance.

For 2016, all V8 F-Types will come standard with AWD, including the V8 R Coupe. The F-Type Roadster also receives AWD, and the V8 S Roadster is being replaced by a V8 R Roadster. That means all V8 F-Types are now powered by a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 making 550 HP and 502 lb-ft., sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic.

Yes, although a manual option has been announced to day for V6 models the V8 F-Type is still automatic-only. But there’s nothing to complain about as it can propel either the coupe or roadster from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.9 seconds. Top speed is limited to 186 MPH. All-wheel drive will also be offered as an option on the more powerful of the supercharged V6 F-Type, the S Coupe and Convertible. Like the V8, V6 AWD models will only be available with the eight-speed automatic.

In ideal circumstances, the all-wheel drive system sends 100 percent of the engines power rearward. That is, until slippage is detected, then up to 50 percent of the power can be sent to the front wheels for better traction. This also applies to cornering in order to enhance handling. All F-Types now come with torque-vectoring braking for better cornering as well.

The new F-Type with AWD features a restyled hood and the vents are placed further apart and more forward than other F-TYPE models. The new AWD model also features colored side sills and unique exhaust trim for both V6 and V8 models. Check out the video for more details.
