The 2017 Mazda CX-9 has been spied testing in the U.S., benchmarking against the Acura MDX.

The current CX-9 debuted in 2007 and received an update in 2013 but still lags behind its competition, especially the recently redesigned Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander. The three-row crossover is the last from the Ford era and the Japanese automaker is looking forward to moving on with the second-generation model. Expect the 2017 Mazda CX-9 to incorporate the brand’s current Kodo design language as well as its SkyActiv powerplants.

Under the hood, Mazda will equip the new CX-9 with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder SkyActiv engine, replacing the old V6. The crossover will continue to serve as a three-row model with seating for seven and will be available with all-wheel drive.

Considering it has been spied testing in Southern California, it is likely that the 2017 Mazda CX-9 will debut this November at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.

I think the 2.5 turbo is going to be a tough sell in the US and that's for people who have no idea of Mazdas abysmal record with turbo fours. The current six isn't a great lump (my family has two cx-9s) but it works.

Turbos burn oil and need maintenance every 15K! I would gladly that a V6 any day!

We bought a new 2016 CX-5 GT and I have been pleasantly surprised by the pick-up and the fuel economy of the S/A system there. I wonder if that same drivetrain will provide enough power for the increased weight of the CX-9. I have owned 2 CX-9 and currently own a 2011 with 108,000 miles and getting better mileage will almost be enough for me to trade for a new CX-9 in '17. I like the extra room for me in the CX-9...otherwise I would get a second CX-5 GT and look for a CX-9 seat base with the motor that gives the directions and range to fit my odd shaped long torso/short legs frame.
