No one can even test drive the Ford Focus RS yet, but there are already 1,500 orders in the U.K. for the hot hatch.

According to the American automaker’s U.K. arm, 500 Focus RS fans have already paid deposits to secure the first cars, while 1,000 other prospective buyers will be among the first to take delivery next spring. The hot hatch will be powered by a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder engine with 350 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque and enthusiasts worldwide can’t wait for it to arrive.

Unfortunately, order numbers in the U.S. have not been announced, although it’s more than likely that it exceeds the 1,500 figure in the U.K. The American enthusiast market has been clamoring for a formidable, high-performance hatchback for quite some time now and the Ford Focus RS fits the billing, especially in the styling department. Standard equipment on the Ford Focus RS includes 19-inch wheels, twin high-performance exhaust, Bi-Xenon headlights, Recaro front seats, dual-zone electronic temperature control, heated windscreen and washer jets as well as an RS performance rear spoiler.

“These enthusiasts are taking great care in building their optimum specification,” said Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director. “We expected those first in the queue, many of whom are owners of previous RS models, to be exacting about their requirements, and so it has proved, with many opting for motorsport-style Recaro shell front seats, 19in black forged alloy wheels, luxury pack, electric tilt/side sunroof and Ford SYNC2 navigation and sound system.”
