Just a week after reports surfaced that a hardcore Aston Martin Vantage GT8 is in the works, spy photographers have caught it in action.
The British automaker is testing the stripped-out Vantage at the Nurburgring with basically no camouflage and it’s looking as hardcore as promised. Starting with essentially a V8-powered Vantage GT12, the Vantage GT8 is expected to target sports cars like the Porsche GT3 RS. The exterior has been accented with an aggressive aerodynamics package but has been tweaked compared to what’s on the Vantage GT12.
For starters, the front spoiler takes on a different shape and Aston Martin has removed the rear brake cooling ducts from the GT12. There’s also a slightly smaller fixed wing on the trunk and the rear diffuser looks a bit different. It also appears that the air outlets on the front fenders found on the V8 variant didn’t make it onto the prototype.
Compared to the regular Aston Martin Vantage V8, expect the GT8 to weigh less while offering more performance under the hood. Rumors suggest the street-legal racecar will be limited to 150 units, which is 50 more than the GT12.
