2017 Chevrolet Malibu Premier First to Receive 9-Speed Auto
The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu Premier will be available with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The new nine-speed transverse transmission is the product of a collaboration between Ford and GM that also resulted in a 10-speed unit found in the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Not very many details about the new automatic transmission have been released, but GM Inside News did find a document confirming the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu Premier will be the first vehicle to receive it from either automaker.

The document notes that the transmission replaces the outgoing eight-speed automatic and will change the final drive-axle ratio from 3.08 to 2.89. The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu L, LS and LT trims will continue to be offered with a six-speed automatic.
