The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 has recorded a Nurburgring lap time of 7:21.23, the fastest ever for a sedan.

There’s a small catch however, as the lap was conducted with a “production-intent prototype,” meaning it’s representative of what Jaguar plans to put into production, but isn’t an absolute certainty just yet. Regardless, the lap time is impressive considering it is 11 seconds faster than the previous record. It was achieved with racing driver Vincent Radermecker behind the wheel and confirms the XE SV Project 8 is the most extreme road-legal Jaguar ever.

Sporting 592 horsepower from a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine, the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 will be limited to 300 units worldwide and has a price tag of $188,495 including destination in the U.S. Deliveries are scheduled to begin next year. You can watch a video of the lap below.

“The SVO design and engineering team’s mission was to create the most track-focused road-legal Jaguar in history – not only the fastest, but also the most agile,” said Mark Stanton, SVO director. “As a result, only the roof and front door skins of the Project 8 body are carried-over unaltered from XE and 75 per cent of its mechanical hardware is new. This astonishing Nürburgring Nordschleife record validates the success of such extensive changes.”

Fascinating to witness the rise of the Indian motorcar industry in the guise of the storied Jaguar marque. Then again if Hyundai can go from selling recycled garbage to the well-regarded brand they seem to have become in the States, anything's possible.

Impressive, especially how well it took the carousel.
