Spy photographers have caught the upcoming Mercedes EQ C testing in northern Sweden.

Earlier this week, the EQ C was caught on camera by spy photographers while testing at night, and this time it’s broad daylight for a new set of photos. Riding on the German automaker’s new electric architecture, EVA, the EQ C will be the first model for the company’s dedicated electric EQ sub-brand and has been confirmed to make its debut this fall. The EVA platform is actually based on Mercedes’ MRA architecture, which was first introduced on the C-Class in 2014.

It will have the capability of supporting a battery pack up to 885 pounds, and Mercedes will have a bit of versatility when it comes to electric motors. It can either use a single 300 kW in the rear, or that rear motor could be combined with a 90- or 150-kW unit up front.

Expect to see adaptive suspension, regenerative braking, and e-torque vectoring on the EQ C and other future EQ models.

The company aims to sell around 20,000 units per model with an average price starting around $110,000.

After making its debut this fall, the EQ C will arrive dealerships next year, giving Mercedes a competent rival to the Tesla Model X.
