Liberty Bell Auto Highlights
Liberty Bell Auto Protect has been in business for 10 years and is available in every state except California. It sells extended warranty coverage for vehicles that have as many as 140,000 miles and are up to 20 years old.
Liberty Bell Auto Protect Extended Warranty Coverage
There are three vehicle service contracts offered by Liberty Bell Auto Protect. The Platinum warranty plan is roughly equivalent to a powertrain warranty, and the Platinum Prime plan is a bumper-to-bumper warranty. Components covered by each plan are detailed in the chart below.
|Platinum Plan||Platinum Plus Plan||Platinum Prime Plan|
|Four-Wheel and All-Wheel Drive||✓||✓||✓|
|Brake System Components||✓|
|Seals and Gaskets||✓|
Each plan also includes the following benefits:
- Roadside assistance: This benefit covers towing, flat tire changes, jump-starts, locksmith services, and fuel delivery services.
- Rental car coverage: This will reimburse you for the cost of a rental car up to $35 per day for a maximum of six days.
- Trip interruption coverage: This provides $50 per day for up to three days for emergency trip interruption when you are more than 100 miles from your home.
- Road hazard coverage: This optional add-on will pay to repair or replace a tire that is damaged by a road hazard.
Liberty Bell Auto Protect policies can be purchased for new and used cars and are fully transferable between both cars and owners.
As is standard with such policies, your vehicle must be regularly serviced in order to maintain coverage. Servicing must be done according to the manufacturer’s service schedule and at the owner’s expense.
In general, anything that voids the manufacturer warranty—such as aftermarket modifications—will also void your Liberty Bell Auto Protect extended warranty. Using your vehicle for commercial purposes, which includes driving for Uber or Lyft, is against the terms of a Liberty Bell Auto contract.
Liberty Bell Auto Warranty Cost
Liberty Bell Auto Protect offers two deductible options: $50 and $100. The final cost of your vehicle service contract will depend on the term limits of the contract, your deductible, and your vehicle’s model and mileage.
We asked for quotes for a 2017 Ford Explorer with 45,000 miles and were offered the following deals:
|Liberty Bell Auto Protect||Platinum||Platinum Plus||Platinum Prime|
|Coverage Term||5 years/60,000 miles||3 years/36,000 miles||5 years/60,000 miles|
|Monthly Payment||$85/month for 24 months||$96/month for 24 months||$1,688 upfront|
|Down Payment||$150||$150||Full amount|
These prices are relatively low for this coverage term. The quote we received for a five-year bumper-to-bumper coverage plan comes out to around $490 per year of coverage. Quotes we received for similar coverage on the same vehicle from other providers averaged around $800 per year of coverage.
Liberty Bell Auto Protect also advertises what it calls a 110-percent, price-match guarantee—which likely means that if you can show a better price for a comparable contract, Liberty Bell Auto Protect will offer a better price. Additionally, Liberty Bell Auto Protect offers military discounts, so mention your military background if you are seeking a quote.
Quotes and Claims Processes
For a quote from Liberty Bell Auto Protect, you can call in or reach out online. We asked for a quote through email. After filling out the requested information, we were contacted within 10 minutes by an agent. Calling is even quicker. When we called for a quote, the entire process took less than six minutes.
In the event that you must file a claim, you should first contact the Liberty Bell Auto Protect claims department at 866-542-2355.
Vehicles must be serviced by a licensed repair facility or technician certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). The auto repair shop should diagnose your vehicle and report its findings to the claims department. Once Liberty Bell Auto Protect approves the claim, repairs can begin.
Liberty Bell Auto Ratings and Reviews
Liberty Bell Auto Protect has strong industry and customer ratings. While it is not currently accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB), it does hold a B rating and has 32 registered complaints in the past three years.
Customers who complained through the BBB all had the same issue: a claim denial. We read through each complaint, and in each case, claims were denied because the mechanical issue was deemed to be a pre-existing condition. While we are not in a position to verify the accuracy of this assertion, there are relatively few customer complaints overall. Customer reviews logged with the BBB mostly praise the speed and ease of claims servicing.
Liberty Bell Auto Protect holds a Trustpilot score of 4.3 based on more than 200 customer reviews. Most Trustpilot reports praise friendly sales people and policy purchasing. This doesn’t necessarily reflect on the likelihood that Liberty Bell Auto Protect will pay out claims, but it does serve as a contrast from many auto warranty companies that are known to have particularly pushy sales reps.
Liberty Bell Auto Protect: 4.0 Stars
We give Liberty Bell Auto Protect 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. While it does not stand out as the best in any particular category, it offers solid coverage options at low prices for the industry.
The company has a sleek website but lacks the convenient instant chat feature that is offered by many competitors. However, email response times are fast, and it is easy to speak with representatives over the phone. Liberty Bell Auto Protect makes it a point not to outsource its call centers and ensure that anyone you speak to is a knowledgeable staff member who can help you with your issue without redirecting your call a dozen times.
Affordability is probably the greatest reason to recommend Liberty Bell Auto Protect. Though its plan names are confusing, the coverage is a good deal.
