The story of Alex Zanardi is truly an inspirational one. In a tragic accident at a 2001 CART race, Zanardi lost both his legs and many believed his racing career was over.

Years since, Zanardi has designed his own prosthetic limbs and has even made his way back behind the wheel of a car, returning to competition using hand-operated throttle and brake controls. Zanardi even had no qualms getting back on Lausitzring, the location of his tragic accident. After competing in a wide range of motorsports, Zanardi is turning his attention to hand-bike racing.

BMW Motorsport wants to share the famous Italian driver’s story and has put together a short clip documenting Zanardi’s journey to hand-bike racing. And to show off just how determined Zanardi is at facing adversity, the video takes place at Lausitzring.
