In a venerable perry and thrust response to Ford’s Boss 302 Mustang, Chevrolet is releasing the Camaro SS 1LE: a track-ready version of its 6.2-liter grunting hedgehog of a muscle car.

Priced to slot between the SS and ZL1 Camaros, the 1LE is aimed at exactly the same target as Ford’s track-ready Boss 302 ‘Stang. Brought to market with much the same philosophy as the Boss, Chevrolet’s “affordable” track capable muscle car gets much of the improved parts from its more expensive ZL1 for $37,035 including a $900 destination charge, which comes in about $10,000 less than the Boss.

Chevrolet released a video of its new track toy running around the Virginia International Raceway today in which the car manages to come within six seconds of the ZL1’s lap time. While that’s practically an eternity in racing time, it’s impressive just the same considering its bigger brother’s 154-hp advantage, and magnetic ride control suspension.
