Buick Regal, Volvo S60 Rank With German Luxury Cars in CR Testing

The Buick Regal and Volvo S60 are improved enough to rival offerings from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

According to the latest issue of Consumer Reports, the Buick Regal now ranks among the top upscale sports sedans in today’s market, finishing just one point shy of the class-leading BMW 328i. The Regal, which scored 83 points and tied with the Mercedes-Benz C250, was applauded for its performance, handling and user-friendly infotainment system. The publication also noted that the Volvo S60 has been improved enough to give “more prestigious competitors from BMW and Mercedes-Benz serious competition.”

With a score of 80, the Volvo S60 bested the likes of the Volkswagen CC, Infiniti Q50, Audi A4 and Lexus IS models. As a result, of all the models that were tested, only the BMW 328i, Buick Regal and Mercedes-Benz C250 come recommended.

The 2014 Buick Regal benefits from an updated 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 259 hp while the S60 features a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant with 240 hp.
