Details on McLaren‘s entry-level Super Series model have come to light.

Called the 540C, it will sit beneath the 570S (pictured above) and carry a price tag of roughly $160,000 according to Car and Driver. As can be expected by its name, this car will make 540 PS (533 hp), slightly less power than the 570 PS (563 hp) found in the 570S. The same turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 will provide power for both cars.

To keep the price down, the 540C will avoid McLaren’s costly carbon ceramic brakes that are fitted to the 570S. It will also have cast aluminum wheels, a revised aero kit and fewer luxury features inside. The more powerful 570S is expected to cost about $185,000.

McLaren has not yet officially decided to bring the 540C to the United States, although the car will be homologated for sale here. If it doesn’t end up in U.S. McLaren dealers, the 540C will be available on a special order basis to interested customers.

I can see this car being developed into a 3-seater; either McLaren F1 style or with a rear jumpseat Pickup style.
