Hyundai‘s first B-segment crossover will head to the U.S. in the first quarter of 2018.

Already on sale in other markets around the world, the debut of the U.S. version of the Hyundai Kona at the 2017 L.A. Auto Show had no surprises. The Korean automaker confirmed it will come standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder Atkinson engine with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-ft of torque, while the Limited and Ultimate trims are equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine providing 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. The standard 2.0-liter engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, while the turbocharged unit gets a seven-speed EcoShift dual-clutch transmission.

When it arrives, color choices will include Chalk White, Ultra Black, Sonic Silver, Thunder Gray, Pulse Red, Surf Blue, and Lime Twist. The roof can be finished with an optional contrasting color scheme, helping it really stand out in a crowd.

Inside the cabin, the Kona will come standard with a seven-inch touchscreen that includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability. Other interior amenities include a four-inch color LCD gauge cluster, power driver’s seat, leather heated seats, automatic air conditioning, and proximity key. Available as an option is a Head-Up Display system, which projects a virtual image onto the transparent panel mounted behind the instrument cluster that helps keep the driver’s eyes on the road. As a first in the segment, the Kona will offer smartphone wireless charging that is fully compliant with WPC’s Qi standard.

Advanced safety features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, High-Beam Assist, and Driver Attention Warning. The crossover also uses its radar systems to assist with Blind-Spot Collision Warning and Rear
Cross-Traffic Collision Warning.

“Our new Kona crossover is a stylish and functional compact CUV, tailored to the needs of customers who pursue active lifestyles of all kinds,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning, Hyundai Motor America. “We’re confident it will set new standards for its segment, with appealing design, cutting-edge connectivity and class-leading available safety features.”

Pricing for the 2018 Hyundai Kona will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch next year.

What are the sliver looking lenses above the headlights? Other than that looks ok.

What is the estimated MPG on this? The UK version reported ~54 for the non turbo version. I would like to consider this if it at least gets close to hybrid/Ioniq range.

I'm with you. I could do without the little nostril on the front fascia, though.
