J.D. Power recently published its 2019 U.S. Customer Service Index study.

The annual study aims to rank automakers based on customer satisfaction with regards to maintenance and repair service. J.D. power surveyed owners of 1 to 5-year-old vehicles on various factors regarding their latest visit to the service center including service initiation, vehicle pickup, service quality, and the service advisors, among more. It then used the results to give automakers a score out of 1,000 — the higher the score, the more customers were satisfied with their visit to the service department.

This study ranked luxury and mainstream automakers separately, as luxury automakers typically have much higher standards for customer satisfaction and service quality. As such, this list focuses on mainstream non-luxury brands, which more consumers are likely to visit in their lifetime.

Scroll below to see which automakers have the weakest service departments based on J.D. Power’s findings.

8. Honda

Best of the worst on J.D. Power’s list is Honda, which had a survey score of 815 – not that far off the market average score of 827.

7. Ford

Next up is Ford, which received a score of 814, slightly below Honda and again not very far off the market average score of 827.

6. Mazda

Mazda had a relatively low survey score of 811, which is quite a bit below the market average compared to Ford and Honda.

5. Chrysler

Chrysler received a relatively poor survey score of 805 – but this was still enough to make it the best-performing FCA brand on this list.

4. Dodge

Dodge’s survey score was 804, well below the 827 market average. Thinking twice about that Hellcat?

3. Jeep

Despite Jeep’s popularity, its customers aren’t very happy with its service departments. It received a survey score of 803, well below the market average and among the worst mass-market brands included in the survey.

2. Ram

It’s no surprise that Ram, which often shares a service center with Dodge, Jeep and/or Chrysler, appears as the second worst entry on this list. It received a survey score of 783 – well below even Jeep.

1. Fiat

By far the worst-performing brand in this survey was Fiat, which had a lowly score of 743. The Fiat 124 Spider is definitely cool, but a poor service center definitely isn’t.
