This week the most researched cars included old favorites like the Ford Mustang and Jeep Wrangler as well as the budget minded Subaru Impreza. Two family-friendly options also made the list: the Dodge Grand Caravan and Ford Escape.

Most of the hype around the Mustang is focused these days on the next generation which will launch in 2014 as a 2015 model year. Still, people are understandably interested in one of the best bargains on the market for horsepower per dollar. Be it the still-lively V6 all the way up to the gut-wrenching Shelby GT500, the Mustang has matured into an everyman’s pony car.

The Jeep Wangler Unlimited got some search box love this week as well. Little changed for the 2013 model year, but Chrysler added a new six-speed automatic transmission in 2012 that gave the Wrangler and its longer sibling better fuel efficiency and improved road manners.

Keeping power distributed to all four wheels, but bringing fuel efficiency up and ratcheting the MSRP down, the Subaru Impreza was a popular pick this week. With snow on the ground in many parts of the U.S., it’s not surprising to see people becoming more curious about the all-wheel drive compact.

Next up — the Ford Escape. Redesigned for 2013, the car took on a new look to leave its boxy identity behind. Unfortunately, the new car has been riddled so far with recalls.

Finally, the Dodge Grand Caravan rounded off the list. Dodge and Chrysler minivans can come with Blu-Ray players starting this year.
