All cab configurations of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 series are the first pickup trucks to receive the 5-star New Car Assessment Program Overall Vehicle Score for safety since the implementation of more rigorous requirements by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the 2011 model year.

General Motor’s 2014 half-ton pickup truck twins, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, have both been given five-star safety ratings in regular and double cab form courtesy of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

With these two configurations earning top marks, the Silverado and Sierra are five-star safety rated in every form as the previously tested crew cab models have already been granted five stars.

The trucks underwent a complete overhaul for the 2014 model year and are currently the only 2014 half-ton trucks to have earned a five-star rating from NHTSA.

Besides a fully boxed frame and high-strength steel, the Silverado and Sierra offer other safety services such as forward collision alert, safety alert seat, lane departure warning and six standard airbags.
