Large Hyundai SUV Puts Chevrolet Tahoe in Its Crosshairs

Hyundai
is going after vehicles like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition with its new eight-seat, three-row SUV.

The SUV was recently spied undergoing cold weather testing, and considering its stature, it was likely nigh-impossible for photographers to miss. The vehicle will ride on a large, front-wheel-drive based architecture that will also be shared with a Kia-badged variant inspired by the Kia Telluride concept.

Not much is known about the mysterious Hyundai three-row SUV, but the Telluride concept featured a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a hybrid system, which had a maximum output of around 400 hp. We could see a plug-in hybrid version arriving eventually, but gas engines will likely be the only powertrains available from launch. Hyundai’s 3.3-liter V6 and eight-speed automatic transmission seem to be the most likely candidates for the large SUVs, but perhaps Hyundai/Kia will surprise us.

The large Hyundai SUV should make its debut sometime later this year, or perhaps in early 2019.

A hybrid of this makes sense. Though if it is FWD it should actually be targeting the Acadia/traverse/enclave as they are FWD based and are also 7-8 seaters
