Altor Locks Rebrands Its Revolutionary Trailer Lock, The 'ICON'

Altor Locks, creators of the most unpickable, unbreakable, undrillable trailer lock on the market today, has rebranded its revolutionary “SAF” trailer lock the “ICON”. Underneath the new name is still the same brawny, overbuilt brute of a trailer lock that scores of customers have come to rely on, designed to withstand attacks on every conceivable front.

Sledgehammer? You’d better have endless energy, because the ICON is cast from thick hardened steel with the strength and ductility to hold up to repeated heavy hammer blows. Power tools? The ICON’s geometry is specifically designed to reject grinding wheels up to 5 inches in diameter, and to prevent direct drill attacks to the lock body and mechanism. Lockpick? Good luck; the Altor ICON is equipped with the same cutting-edge high-security disc detainer lock mechanism as the company’s first game-changing product, the SAF Bike Lock. It’s the same mechanism that YouTube’s Lockpicking Lawyer said in 2020 had “essentially zero” chance of ever being picked on the street.

The Altor ICON is the trailer lock for those who simply aren’t willing to take any chances with their property, whether they’re towing a trailer full of expensive construction or landscaping equipment to the job site, or pulling the family boat or camper up north for the weekend.

Sure, no trailer lock in the world is 100% unbreakable. Altor put out a video in 2021 showing someone effectively breaking the lock – after more than 90 minutes of cutting with an angle grinder, including 14 disc changes and 8 battery changes. But even if your would-be trailer thief rolls up with 8 batteries and a full stack of cutting disks on-hand, 90 minutes is a long time for him or her to get discouraged and start thinking about finding easier prey, or to get caught in the act. Another video from Altor shows someone trying – and failing – to break the lock with a sledgehammer and a long pry bar, only managing to inflict a few cosmetic wounds on the lock.

In other words, the designed-and-assembled-in-America Altor ICON is about the closest you can get to making your trailer “theft-proof” shy of locking it away in a private bank vault.

In addition to the name change from SAF to ICON, Altor will have even more exciting news to share in the near future; the company is preparing to expand its coupling fitment options this year to reach roughly 99% of the trailering market by covering the top six manufacturers. Click here if you want to be alerted when Altor has a size and fitment available for your vehicle.

Factor in the ease of use, the superb weather sealing, and the key-alike option for multiple locks in commercial and industrial applications, and you get a true one-lock-fits-all solution that’s as versatile as it is secure.

Altor is aware that not every consumer will find the ICON’s price tag palatable. Whether or not it’s worth the cost is really a question of how much you prioritize the security of your trailer. Are you willing to spend a bit of extra cash upfront to have the most durable, well-designed trailer theft deterrent you can get, or would you just as soon pay less for one of the numerous other trailer locks on the market? The choice is yours. Price is perhaps the one downside of the Altor ICON trailer lock, but quality and innovative design always come at a cost.

Of course, the best way to feel out whether the Altor ICON is worthy of your hard-earned money is to check out the company for yourself. Altor has all sorts of great information on its website, including a blog featuring – among other things – an interview between Altor COO Dylan Cato and Full Send host Juan Hernandez. Naturally, it’s also the place to get the most up-to-date information on the Altor ICON trailer lock product line, including coupling fitment options. Check it out.
