The GR Corolla gains a new trim that might be just right for buyers.

It’s no secret that the Toyota GR Corolla is a fantastic car. With a standard manual transmission and a thrummy and responsive turbocharged three-cylinder, the GR Corolla makes up for lost time, filling the hole in our hearts that the old Subaru WRX hatchback left. Predictably, the GR Corolla has returned for the 2024 model year. The new model year brings a new trim that just might be the goldilocks of all the trims.

Before now, the GR Corolla came only in three trims: Core, Circuit, and Morizo trim. The Morizo was a 2023-only, limited-edition 200-unit special. That trim saw the back seats removed, bumped the power ever so slightly, and trimmed other goodies like six of the eight speakers, and the rear wiper to create Toyota’s take on a lightweight track car. The Circuit edition isn’t quite that intense, but it does get limited slip differentials both front and rear and a carbon fiber roof. For 2024, Toyota’s added a new Premium trim, that sits between the base Core and Circuit models.

The Premium trim just might be what enthusiast drivers are yearning for. The Premium trim is very similar to the Core trim, but it adds some performance package features like the brake cooling ducts, and the front and rear locking differentials – a feature not available on the base Core model, all for a price that’s a little cheaper than the old Circuit model in 2023.

Price wise, the Premium sits between the Core, and the now top-trim model the Circuit. Now that the Circuit is the top-of-the-line car, its price has also jumped. It too has some updates, like the same lightweight forged wheels from the discontinued special-edition Morizo trim. Not including the $1,095 destination fee, the base Core trim now starts at $37,195, about $200 more than last year. The new Premium trim is $41,015, slightly down from the $42,900 of last year’s Circuit trim. The updated now top-of-the-line Circuit trim starts at $45,835.
