Nissan enters the booming mainstream EV SUV market with the all-new Ariya. One of the larger entires, the all-electric Nissan is positioned to be more premium than some of its main competitors.

Initially, the vehicle will be available with a choice of drivetrains. Customers can choose between a single motor powering the front wheels, or a dual motor setup sending power to all four wheels.

Pros

Comfortable ride, spacious second row, high-end interior

Cons

Not as quick as power suggests, slow max charge speed, detached drive

Bottom Line

Nissan's sophomore EV is a rare one: it doesn't pretend to be sporty, but instead focuses on a smooth ride, which should make it very appealing as an everyday driver.

2023 Nissan Ariya Platinum+ E-4ORCE Review

The 2023 Nissan Ariya is all about choice. Besides being the all-electric SUV option within the brand’s lineup, there are no fewer than eight trims available in the United States (six in Canada). These cover two battery sizes, two driveline choices, and three power level outputs.

Despite the magnitude of choices, the majority of our seat time behind the wheel of the Ariya has been with the same configuration. Large battery, front-wheel drive, and larger front motor.

2023 Nissan Ariya Evolve+ FWD Review

It’s a bit of a surprise it took this long.

Nissan was one of the first mass market electric vehicle adaptors with the original LEAF. Considering all the experience, success, and knowledge gained form two generations of the compact EV, we’re a bit shocked it has taken the brand as long as it has to release a second full electric vehicle.

But Nissan finally has in the form of a compact SUV-like vehicle called the Ariya. Yes, you read that right, compact. Although the Ariya visually looks large from the outside, it’s smaller than the brand’s own Rogue SUV. Measuring 182.3-inches (4,645 mm) in length and 65.4-inches (1,660 mm) in height, it’s shorter and lower to the ground than the Rogue.
