Jeep Reveals New Fiat Based Crossover

Jeep fans who were up in arms about the Compass and Patriot crossovers will have a no reason to get aggravated; a new video that purports to go inside Jeep’s design studios apparently show a new crossover based on a C-segment Fiat.

Aside from the illustration, we can also see a clay model in the video, suggesting that the car is still pretty early on in the design stage.  Truthfully, it doesn’t look bad but we can almost hear the cries from hardcore Wrangler owners and internet pundits who will forever treat this Jeep as an unwanted stepchild.

Honda Jazz Hybrid Unveiled

Honda has unveiled their Jazz Hybrid, which is sold as the Fit here in North America. We won’t be getting the Fit Hybrid in our part of the world, but it doesn’t look like we’re missing out on much.

With mileage comparable to a CR-Z, and a nearly $5,000 premium over a regular Fit, the car is hardly a value proposition. In fact, we’d wager that the only real benefit is that buying one will entitle Japanese market customers to take advantage of generous subsidies offered by the government on hybrid cars. But never say never.

The Fit Hybrid will debut at the Paris Auto Show in September.

2011 Chevrolet Orlando Pictures Revealed, Will Debut At 2010 Paris Auto Show

Chevrolet‘s Orlando micro-van has had its first pictures shown ahead of its debut at the Paris Auto Show. Based on the Cruze platform, the Orlando won’t make it to the United States, but is expected to be a strong seller in world markets, as well as Canada, where the compact minivan market has entries from nearly every automaker.

Under the hood is a 1.8L gasoline four-cylinder engine putting out 143 horsepower, along with two 2.0L diesels, making 133 and 165 horsepower. Styling takes on Chevrolet’s “corporate face” out front, while the rest of the car looks conservative and squared off. Inside, the cockpit is said to be inspired by the Corvette with seating for seven passengers.

Autoguide will be on hand in Paris for the Orlando’s debut. Stay tuned for more pictures and info.

Consumers Reports Compiles List Of Cars Still Available With Manual Transmission

Car and Driver’s campaign to “Save the Manuals” campaign is spreading, with Consumers Reports doing their part for the movement by compiling a comprehensive list of all new cars available with a manual gearbox.

A few years ago, you could find some real oddities with a stick shift – a BMW X5 for example. Now, the list is largely what you’d expect; compact pickups, economy cars, the occasional luxury sedan with sporting pretensions, and of course, performance cars.

But there is one totally-out-of-left-field choice on the list that stands out from the others; the Mercury Milan (though not the hybrid pictured above), which can be had with a stick like its Ford Fusion counterpart. Better act fast if you want one.

Fiat 500, Nissan Quest, Among 20 World Debuts At 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show

The Fiat 500 hot hatch and Nissan Quest minivan are among the 20 world debuts expected to bow at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show this November.

Having traditionally lived in the shadow of Detroit’s International Auto Show, the lineup for this years event appears to be expanding, even though only two of the 20 debuts have been announced. Porsche is expected to debut a Cayman ClubSport at Los Angeles, but little else is known beyond that. In addition to the world debuts, another 20 vehicles are expected to bow in some form or another in L.A., pushing the total up to 40 debuts. The Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt are expected to appear in final production form as well, with the Volt hitting dealerships right around that time as well.

With even the 2010 Detroit Show coming off as a more subdued affair due to the economic downturn, Los Angeles is hopefully a harbinger of things to come, with a ton of product hitting dealerships and consumer confidence restored.

2011 Ford Explorer Videos Show Snazzy New Features

All three are pretty neat, although the Terrain Management System and the Blind Spot Information System are respectively, a gussied-up all-wheel drive system and an increasingly common technology respectively. The Trailer Control System is pretty cool, and considering that 30% of Explorer buyers tow, perhaps the most relevant.

2011-2012 BMW 5 Series, 5 Series GT Models Get Recalled For Faulty Fuel Tank Sensors

Cargraphic Debuts 656-HP Audi RS6

Even though the current generation Audi RS6 is being discontinued, Cargraphic has decided that now is an opportune time to give those owners something to look forward to. Tuned wagons are some of our favorite vehicles, especially since no one ever expects it and they look absolutely killer when done right. Having 656-hp to back it all up helps too.

Cargraphic takes the twin-turbo Audi V10 to a whole new level bumping it from 572-hp to 656-hp, with very little details on how it’s achieved. We’re going to safely assume it’s an ECU upgrade of some sort since they do take the liberty to mention an exhaust bolt-on option. The exhaust is so aggressively tuned in fact that it’s not legal for use in German and only available for export use only.

Along with their exhaust options are a set of 21×10.5-inch Cargraphic GT-R wheels wrapped with 285/30/21 rubber. It’s a good thing this wagon pumps out over 650-hp to help spin those bad boys.

2011 Subaru Outback Gets In-Car Wi-Fi

Subaru will pick up the first three months, but the service will cost $29 a month after that.

Considering that a lot of Subaru owners take their cars to a summer home, ski cabin or far out area without high-speed web access, it’s a somewhat compelling option that is likely cheaper than an internet connection or exorbitant smartphone data plans.

Nissan Juke A Runaway Success In Japan

The Nissan Juke is such a polarizing car that any predictions regarding sales numbers in North America are almost pointless – it really is a “love it or hate it” vehicle and trying to pin down consumers taste is almost a futile exercise.

Nissan must have faith in their diminutive crossover’s ability to sell here, and its doubtlessly due to the incredible sales the Juke is generating in Japan.

While Nissan estimated that there would be 1,300 orders in the first month of sales, the total came to 11,000. The largest demographic for the Juke are 20-29 year old men, a great statistic for a country where youth are rapidly losing interest in cars.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG DR520 Gets More Power, Played Out Paint Scheme

If there’s one thing the world doesn’t need, its more matte colored cars. We suppose its somewhat more palatable when it comes in the form of the limited edition Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG DR520.

DR520 stands for “Dyno Rated 520 horsepower” – and the 4.1 second 0-60 time seems to confirm that the power upgrades give the car an advantage over the standard C63. We do like the upgraded brakes and the other features available on the AMG Performance Pack, but the matte black or white vinyl wrap is less than desirable if you’re over the age of 25.

Fortunately, the 20 examples of this car will be available only in the UK, meaning that regular C63 owners won’t feel inadequate should they ever run into a DR520 and realize that they no longer have the latest and greatest Merc.

Avatar,Beware! Opel Meriva Gets 3D Advertisement (Video Inside)

Opel has decided to step up and deliver the first automotive advertisement in 3D (at least as far as we know) for their new Meriva minivan. GWA-Tuning Offers Body Kit for Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Wagon

GWA-Tuning is working on helping give the wagon body style a rebirth, and has released this full body kit for the Mercedes-Benz E63 Wagon. And while we’re huge wagon fans and welcome any aftermarket tuner that focuses on wagons with open arms, we’re a little unsure how this one ranks in our books.

There’s no denying that the new E-Class chassis is picking up a lot of praise so it’s no surprise the aftermarket is all about its variants from the coupe to the sedan to the convertible to the wagon. GWA-Tuning’s body kit reminds us a little bit of the Cadillac CTS-V front end which could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your perspective. The basic kit comes complete for around $18,500 which includes a new front bumper with carbon fiber vents and spoiler, LED running lights, a massively opened grille and new brake cooling vents. New side skirts with cooling ducts round off the side of the wagon while the rear gets a carbon fiber diffuser with an LED fog lamp and roof spoiler.

An option for an additional $9,000 or so, you can also grab yourself a pair of 19×8.5-inch wheels in the front and larger and wider 20×10-inch wheels for the rear. An exhaust equipped with button to open up the valves also comes with the optional upgrade with a lowering module as well. In the interior are GWA-Tuning’s aluminum pedals, foot rest and new illuminated door sills.

Even though the renderings are top-notch, we’re interested to see how this kit will look on an actual vehicle. For now we’ll stay reserved on our opinion and just be thankful that wagon tuning is alive and well.

Audi Travolution System Can Talk To Traffic Signals, Helping The Environment

What if your car knew exactly when the traffic lights would change, letting you crawl slowly towards a light at a pace that would let you hit the gas upon a green light, never having to come to a full stop? Or made irrelevant that game of brinksmanship, where you and the car next to you slowly creep away while the light is still red, rocketing away from an intersection when it changes color? What if you could be warned upon an amber or red light with an audible and visual warning?

Audi is working on a system that can do this, and it’s called Travolution. Already in place on a test fleet of 25 cars, the system uses wireless LAN to interact with traffic signals, and then display the data on the in-car display coupled to Audi’s MMI system. Audi claims that Travolution has the potential to save nearly 185,000 gallons of fuel every year. We’d like to see the math behind that, and an assurance that this wouldn’t lead to some kind of Skynet autonomous driving program.

New Volkswagen Touran 7-Seater Gets 51.3 MPG

Volkswagen‘s compact Touran Minivan (not to be confused with the Routan sold here in North America) has just been launched in its newest incarnation, and the range is being led by a 1.6L BlueMotion diesel that makes 105 horsepower returns a very impressive 51.3 miles per gallon. Also interesting is the tiny 1.2L 4-cylinder gas engine that puts out a respectable 102 horsepower thanks to Volkswagen’s direct injection system, and a small supercharger attached to the engine.

The Touran is based on the Golf, making it a bit small for North American tastes, but perfect for Europe and Asia, where high fuel prices and tight spaces mean that a car like a Dodge Caravan is totally unsuitable, and a smaller footprint is required (Honda even sells a completely different Odyssey in other markets for this reason). If the Ford Focus C-Max is a hit in North America, the Touran might make it over to our shores, but with Chevrolet recently killing the Orlando for the United States (but not Canada), don’t count on it.

Kia Soul Hamsters Return With Hip-Hop Themed Spot

Now, Kia is showing the East Coast some love, with their new commercial featuring their familiar Hamsters, the Kia Soul, and Black Sheep’s seminal anthem The Choice Is Yours.

The video is shot with a gritty, New York-esque background, and if it weren’t for the cute and furry hamsters, it could actually be a pretty decent music video, with requisite scenes on the basketball court, cruising with the homeys, getting a line-up at the barbershop, and ritzy Park Avenue types staring with disapproving glances at the young hoodlum hamsters. Along the way, the Hamsters reference the song’s hook, by presenting various “boring” econo-car options (represented by a toaster, washing machine and cardboard box), or the neon green Kia Soul. Ostensibly, these options represent offerings from Toyota and Honda, but whoever dreamed up the ad forgot about the hamster’s true vehicle of choice, the Zhu Zhu pet car (which looks strangely like a British sports car).
