Platinum Motorsports Tears Up the Streets of LA to Make One Epic Video

Platinum Motorsports is known for bold luxury and exotic builds, and to really put the spotlight on what they’ve done over the recent years, they’ve put together a video of epic proportions. Taking some of their finest projects and hitting several Los Angeles landmarks while armed with a video camera, Platinum Motorsports has released this video that will make any luxury and exotic lover drool.

The video mainly highlights a Lamborghini LP640 with a matte Reventon Grey paint job, along with a Mercedes-Benz SL550 with a Black Series widebody treatment sporting the same shade. In addition, their Premier 4509 widebody Bentley GT Mulliner also steals the spotlight in matte white and we see glimpses of several Range Rovers.

Obviously the point of the video is to spotlight what Platinum Motorsports specializes in, but we can’t help but wonder how awesome Transformers would be if they had these cars in the movie; or what would happen if Fast and the Furious met Gone in 60 Seconds and had a bastard child.

Bentley Supersports Shatters World Speed Record on Ice

In Finland, rally champion Juha Kankkunen has cracked the 200-mph barrier on ice in a Bentley Supersports, setting a new world speed record on ice.

Atop the frozen Baltic Sea at temperatures of minus 30 degrees, he drove the AWD, W12-engined, biofuel-powered Bentley Continental Supersports convertible to a record 205.48 mph, which bested his own previous world record of 199.83 mph set at the same location in 2007.

“The last time, I narrowly missed the magical 200 mph mark in a Continental GT,” he said. “When I heard about the Supersports I was determined to go record breaking again with the Bentley Boys.”

One of the goals of the British/Finnish team was to keep the car as stock as possible: modifications included a roll cage, low-resistance Pirelli winter tires, front and rear spoilers, and a bumper-mounted parachute. Juha Kankkunen fought crosswinds and sudden blizzards on the 10-mile track, atop 27 inches of ice, to complete two runs in opposite directions. The speed was verified by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Of course, Kankkunen is no stranger to racing in extreme conditions. Since he started rallying in 1978, he has over 23 World Rally victories under his belt, been crowned World Champion four times, and won the Dakar Rally outright in 1988. Finland breeds rally champions, so the saying goes, and off the coast of Finland Kankkunen seemed within his element.

Bentley is planning a limited edition 100-car run of the Supersports to reflect this achievement, in case well-heeled buyers want to tackle the record on their own.

2011 Bentley Continental GT Bows With With More Power, New Looks, V8 Option

Bentley‘s wildly successful Continental GT is due for a refresh, having been on the market since the 2003 model year and finding homes among a multitude of athletes, rappers and regular rich-folk.

For 2011, the Conti gets an all new redesign, but we can hardly tell the difference. The new car does share some style cues with the Mulsanne sedan. The big news is under the hood, where a flex fuel capable 6.0L W12 puts out 567 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. For those worried climate change, a 4.0L V8 will help alleviate your guilt, though power figures haven’t been announced.

Putting that power to the ground is an all-new “Quickshift” 6 speed automatic transmission, which sends 60% of the power to the rear wheels. 60 mph comes up in 4.4 seconds and the new Continental GT is said to be good for 198 mph. Inside, an 8″ touch screen with an integrated Google Maps app ensures you won’t get lost on your way to the gold mine, while new climate controlled seats help regulate the temperature of your backside.

Look for Birdman to take delivery of a Continental GT sometime next year, while other folks get theirs sh0rtly after.

Next Bentley Continental Teased in New Video

Bentley has just released a video teasing the new Continental GT. Lately the British automaker has released numerous special edition models, but this will be an all-new second generation of what is easily the best selling Bentley of all time and a model that helped invigorate Bentley as a brand, attracting younger buyers.

There’s really not much to see in the video, but from what we can make out the new Conti GT will look almost identical to the old one – which is particularly sad that such an awesome luxury machine should continue to have such a bland look.

One item that our attention is drawn to in the video is a new high-tech looking Nav and infotainment system.

As for what’s under the hood, well, don’t be surprised to discover a modified version of the 6.0-liter W12 that powers the current Conti GT.

We should find out more at the upcoming Paris Auto Show.

Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari F40 Among Exotic Cars To Be Auctioned After Ponzi Scheme Bust

Scott Rothstein was once a prominent South Florida lawyer, famous for his humble roots, flashy lifestyle and philanthropy. But after a suicide attempt and a failed escape to Morocco, Rothsetin turned himself in after federal agents exposed his 1.2 billion dollar Ponzi scheme.

Now, the United States government has seized his assets and is auctioning off an assortment of exotic cars owned by Rothstein and a number of shell companies. If you have the funds, and are looking to score a deal on some serious machinery with, shall we say, interesting provenance, take a peek at the list below and get in touch with the appropriate arm of the federal government.
