While several privateer MINI teams are scheduled to compete at this weekend’s Nurburgring 24 Hour endurance race, excitement is building around the company’s factory effort.

Several weeks ago MINI announced it would, for the first time ever, field an official MINI Motorsport team at the Green Hell, but remained tight-lipped on any details. Now a single teaser photo has been released, showing what could very well be a race-prepped version of the all-new 2012 MINI Coupe. That hasn’t been confirmed, but MINI has said the cars will wear the John Cooper Works branding.

MINI will field two race cars under its factory efforts, with the cars wearing Nos. 146 and 147.

“We are looking forward to the challenges posed by the Green Hell,” says Dirk Hollweg, head of MINI Motorsport. “It will certainly be a unique experience.”

In addition, the three other MINI teams will each field two cars each, for a total of eight cars in a field of 250.

Look for full details and photos of the race car to hit tomorrow morning.
