Maybe you’re not a fan of the wild SEMA Show cars built by Fox Marketing. Even then, it requires a certain level of heartlessness to not shed a tear when seeing these photos.

With the launch of the Lexus LFA and Toyota GT 86, Toyota seems to be back in the sports car game. And now the Japanese auto giant is proving its cars are more than just fun-to-drive and shiny sheetmetal, with each car winning its respective class at this weekend’s Nurburgring 24 Hour Race.

Traditionally Lexus and Toyota have followed a different path when it comes to implementing hybrid technology into their cars, but that’s about to change.

We were well aware that Gazoo Racing was working on a pair of Toyota GT 86 race cars and a Lexus LFA for the upcoming Nürburgring 24 Hours race, and now Toyota Swiss Racing Team will be joining it with another pair.

Slow sales prompted  Lexus to end production of the HS 250h, which never found the same level of success that the  CT 200h has.

Unveiled at the New York Auto Show last week, the 2013 Lexus ES has an all-new look, along with the company’s new trademark grille. Underneath that new look, however, is something that’s even more unique, the platform from the upcoming Toyota Avalon.

Previous Lexus ES models were based on Toyota’s Camry, and while the new 2013 model would seem right at home on the Camry underpinnings, Toyota and Lexus have given it the longer platform from the Avalon full-size sedan that was also revealed at New York.

Michael Kroll, manager at Lexus Communications told us “The ES platform will be shared with the recently announced Avalon. It is a significantly updated platform with a wheelbase of 111″, about two inches longer than the Camry platform.”

This extended wheelbase results in the ES being slightly longer than before and with more interior space than the outgoing model.

The Lexus LFA is undoubtedly a supercar, but many criticized its lofty $375,000 price tag.

Over the past few years Lexus has been referred to as a Japanese Buick, with the number one reason being the ES front-drive luxury sedan – a car that drew direct comparisons with the not-quite-Cadillac GM premium brand. To erase those comparos the new 2013 ES gets a more stylish exterior with a GS-themed front nose and a profile more like the flagship LS.

The IIHS tests our cars safety standards through a series of simulated crash tests, and joining the list of top saftey picks is the 2013 Lexus GS.

To be a top safety pick, a vehicles must garner a ‘good’ rating in each of the companies safety tests. The car goes through 40 mph head on collisions, side crash tests into each door, rollover tests to assess the strength of the roof, seat and head restraint assessment and bumper evaluations.

Lexus debuted its new volume-seller midsize 2013 ES350 and ES300h hybrid cars today at the New York Auto Show featuring the same re-visited styling we’ve seen on the rest of its lineup.

“The Lexus ES brought new levels of refinement, sophistication and quality to the entry luxury segment when it entered the market in 1989 and through the years it has consistently been a sales leader for us. Now, with both gas and hybrid versions, the 2013 ES promises to lead Lexus forward once again,” said Lexus group vice president and general manager Mark Templin.

The ES 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a trick ECT-i (Electronically Controlled Transmission with intelligence) six-speed automatic transmission capable of smooth shifting and optimized fuel efficiency. New low-friction engine materials also contribute to the new ES’ higher mpg rating.

Lexus decided to release a teaser of their new 2013 ES model ahead of its New York Auto Show debut, and the marketing machine continues rolling with yet another teaser, this time posted up on Lexus’s twitter account.

According to Lexus Enthusiast, the 25-second mark of the video commences a series of images including a GS 450h, the CT 200h F Sport, the next-generation ES, the next-generation LS, and finally the LX luxury SUV.

Having limited information to go by, Lexus Enthusiasts points out the unique full spindle chrome treatment and an elaborate headlight formation.
